Oncological pathology ranks first in the causes of death in many countries of the world. The reason for such a high mortality from malignant neoplasms is primarily due to the peculiarities of this pathology and that only 25% of those patients hospitalized for inpatient treatment are in a relatively early stage of the disease, when treatment is still available and quite promising, and when most often localized cancer, such as stomach cancer, lung cancer, hospitalization in the first stage of the disease does not reach 10%. At the same time, the modern level of knowledge and medical technology makes it possible to diagnose the most important forms of malignant neoplasms in the early stages of their development, as well as to eliminate the preceding precancerous conditions and precancerous changes. All developed countries are paying increasing attention to both primary and secondary prevention of cancer.
Primary prophylaxis of malignant neoplasms refers to the prevention of the occurrence of malignant tumors and the precancerous states preceding them by eliminating or neutralizing the effects of adverse environmental factors and lifestyle, and by increasing the nonspecific resistance of the organism. This system of activities should cover the whole life of a person.
